Iran Deal Status – Oil prices surged in early trading on Monday after reports stated that Iran ceased negotiations with the United States. This comes after the U.S. and Iran traded strikes against each other over the weekend. Concerns over mines laid by Iran in the Strait of Hormuz remain and removing and preventing additional mines from being laid will be key to increasing future supply.

Core PCE – Apr: 0.2% (Reuters Poll est. 0.3%) Mar: 0.3%
While overall annual inflation increased in April to 3.8% from 3.5%, core inflation rose a more modest 3.3% over the last twelve months. On a positive note, monthly core inflation was reported slightly lower than analyst forecasts at 0.2% versus 0.3% estimates.

Powell Comments – In his first speech after his term as Federal Reserve Chair ended, Jerome Powell warned that the trust the Fed has built over the years “can be torn down all too quickly,” highlighting his reasoning for remaining on the Board of Governors even after his term as Chair ended.

Too Cool to Age – Had he been alive today, Miles Davis would have celebrated his 100th birthday on May 26. In honor of his legacy, institutions around the country are hosting tribute events and releasing new issues of his music throughout the year. In addition, a new biopic featuring his time as a 22-year old in Paris is being financed by Mick Jagger and set to debut later this year.
